Goals, desires and dreams…

Goals, desires and dreams…

“Goals, desires, and dreams, that’s what life really means.”

~ Aldrika Boyle (CHS reunion speech, 1996)

When I was a kid, I along with my siblings loved to watch the Christmas TV Specials every year during the holiday season. My favorite was Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I have carried one of the songs from this movie with me throughout my life – “put one foot in front of the other.” Whenever I have been in a tough situation with no daylight in sight, I have often leaned on the lyrics of this song, which I unashamedly know well.  “You never will get where you’re going, if you never get up on your feet, there’s a good tailwind blowin’, A fast walking man is hard to beat.”

This struck me again yesterday as Ericka walked two laps around the critical care unit along with the physical therapist and I by her side. By simply putting one foot in front of the other – soon, these small steps will lead her back to a life of conquering her goals, desires, and dreams.

GOOD NEWS! At 2:15 pm today, we rolled Ericka out of ICU to a thunder-like applause and cheers from the staff! She is now in a regular room with an immediate goal of getting stronger.

For those that wanted to send flowers or small gifts, you can now feel free to send them to: **Emory University Hospital 1364 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30322, Room# E623.

Ericka is so thankful to all of you for helping her through this time. The visitation policy is the same but she does have her cell phone and you can feel free to text her.

Eric
